Department of Oral Emergency
The Department of Oral Emergency was founded in 1997, comprising two clinics: the Emergency Dental Clinic and the Geriatric Dental Clinic. It also serves as a Standardized Training Base for General Dentistry Residents. The department boasts a distinguished medical and nursing team of 13 members, including 4 with senior professional titles, 9 with intermediate professional titles, 1 doctoral supervisor, 2 master's supervisors, and 5 with doctoral degrees. Endowed with both specialized expertise and multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment capabilities, the team enables efficient in-department consultations and referrals, providing one-stop solutions for patients with oral disorders. Currently, the department acts as the Chair Unit of the Oral Emergency Committee of both the Chinese Stomatological Association (CSA) and the Guangdong Stomatological Association (GSA). It also serves as the Standing Member Unit of the Dental and Alveolar Surgery Committee of the CSA, the Vice Chair Unit of the General Dentistry Committee and the Hospital Infection Management Committee of the GSA, as well as the Standing Member Unit of the Oral Nursing Committee of the GSA and the Emergency Nursing Committee of the Guangdong Nursing Association.
The Emergency Dental Clinic offers 24/7 services, providing oral emergency care for general, severe and critical cases. After emergency intervention, patients can be referred to relevant specialized departments for further systematic treatment. During regular outpatient hours, the clinic also provides comprehensive oral diagnosis, treatment and health care services covering endodontics, alveolar surgery, prosthodontics, periodontology and dental implant restoration. Established in 2008, the Geriatric Dental Clinic is dedicated to middle-aged and elderly patients with oral diseases, focusing on providing full-spectrum oral diagnosis, treatment and health care services such as dental defect restation, dental trauma management, edentulous restoration and comprehensive periodontal therapy.
The department handles approximately 50,000 outpatient and emergency visits annually, and has achieved fruitful results in scientific research and education: it has presided over 7 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and more than 20 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects; trained over 50 master’s and doctoral students as well as postdoctoral fellows; published more than 200 academic papers (over 70 SCI-indexed); compiled 3 academic monographs and obtained 3 national patents; in addition, it led the formulation of 1 clinical guideline/expert consensus of the CSA and participated in the formulation of 5 others.
