Department of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics

Established in 2001, the Department of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics is a National Key Clinical Specialty and a Key Medical Specialty of Guangdong Province. Boasting a complete array of professional facilities, a strong technical team and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities, the department is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and equipment including dental operating microscopes, dental surgical robots, digital CAD/CAM chairside restoration systems, dental dual-wavelength laser therapy devices, nickel-titanium root canal preparation systems and warm gutta-percha obturation systems. Its clinical scope mainly covers dental caries, non-carious dental lesions, pulp diseases and periapical diseases.

Adhering to the specialized clinical features of "Precision, Minimally Invasive, Intelligence and Comfort", the department is committed to promoting standardized resin biomimetic aesthetic restoration technology, digital chairside CAD/CAM restoration technology, minimally invasive endodontic treatment technology and intelligent navigation-based treatment technology for complex pulp and periapical diseases. These efforts have significantly improved the success rate of treating cariology and endodontic diseases, maximized the preservation of natural teeth, provided patients with precise, safe and efficient oral healthcare services, and elevated the level of cariology and endodontic diagnosis and treatment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The department has a high-caliber medical and technical team, consisting of 73 physicians, among whom 35 hold senior professional titles, 82% have obtained doctoral degrees, and 39 serve as doctoral and master supervisors. More than 50% of the team members have overseas research and training experience. Professor Ling Junqi, the founder of the specialty, is a renowned expert in cariology and endodontics in China, Vice President of the Chinese Stomatological Association, and Honorary Chairman of the Professional Committee of Cariology and Endodontics. She compiled and published Microsurgical Endodontics, China's first monograph on microscopic root canal therapy, and led the compilation of the Chinese Stomatological Association's clinical guideline Microscopic Root Canal Therapy, providing standardized criteria for peers nationwide.

As the host Institution of the Endodontology Professional Committee of the Chinese Stomatological Association and Guangdong Stomatological Association, the department has been steadily advancing in its practice, and constructed a hierarchical management and precise diagnosis and treatment system for pulp and periapical diseases, winning the Hospital Management Innovation Award of the Guangdong Hospital Association. In scientific research, the department has published more than 90 high-quality SCI papers in the past five years, obtained 20 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and secured 18 patents. It has also garnered 8 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological achievement awards and 1 provincial-level teaching achievement award, which has firmly established its prominent position and profound influence in the field of cariology and endodontics across China. Over the past five years, the department published 3 international expert consensuses, voicing China's perspectives in the fields of pulp regeneration, navigation technology for microscopic endodontic therapy, and intentional replantation of teeth.
