The Affiliated Hospital of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University is a key base for stomatological research and clinical technological innovation in Guangdong Province. The hospital currently houses a number of scientific and technological innovation platforms, including the National Institution for Drug Clinical Trial (GCP), the Regulatory Science Innovation Research Base of the National Medical Products Administration,the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Stomatology, the Guangdong Research Center for Dental and Cranial Rehabilitation and Material Engineering, the Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases, the Demonstration Unit for the Construction of High-Level Research Hospitals in Guangdong Province (Specialized Category), the National Science Popularization Education Base, the Guangdong Provincial Science Popularization Education Base, and the Guangdong Provincial Youth Science and Technology Education Base. It has achieved full coverage of 8 national key clinical specialties in stomatology.The hospital has fully established the chain of "basic research – engineering technology – clinical translation – science popularization", laying a solid foundation for disciplinary development.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the hospital undertook major and key scientific research projects including the National Key Research and Development Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Program. It published high-level papers in top international academic journals such as Nature Biomedical Engineering, Cell Metabolism, and Science Translational Medicine. The hospital was awarded 12 scientific research prizes, including the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award of the Ministry of Education, the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the Chinese Stomatological Association Science and Technology Award, and the Guangdong Provincial Medical Science and Technology Award. It was granted 203 new patents and completed the commercialization of 14 high-value patents, among which 2 had a contract value exceeding 10 million yuan respectively.
