Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University is a distinguished academic institution operating under an integrated school-hospital governance model. Guanghua School offer accredited bachelor and master’s and doctoral programs in Stomatology (a first-level discipline) and house a postdoctoral research station.

Century-Old Legacy, A Cradle of Excellence

The name "Guanghua," —meaning "Bringing Glory to China," — embodies the founding vision of our pioneers. Rooted in the 1908 establishment of the Canton Guanghua School of Medicine, the first Western medical school independently founded by the Chinese people, we carry forward a century-old heritage. As one of the three major branches of medical education at Sun Yat-sen University, Guanghua School of Stomatology has carried forward the original aspiration and mission of its predecessor. Through nearly half a century of dedicated development, it has evolved into a world-renowned institution for top-tier oral health education and research.

As a National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Unit, the School features four-stage platform laboratories covering basic, simulation, virtual, and reality-based experiments. It offers 9 National First-Class Undergraduate Courses and 11 provincial-level courses. Program Structure

Stomatology (Five-Year Program)  

This is a five-year program. Years 1 through 4 are dedicated to general education courses, basic medical sciences, clinical medicine, and stomatology courses. The fifth year consists of clinical internships in stomatology. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded an undergraduate degree and a Bachelor's degree. Prior to practice, graduates are required to participate in standardized residency training.

Stomatology (5+3 Integrated Program)

This is an eight-year integrated program. The first five years follow the same curriculum as the five-year program, with core professional courses taught bilingually (Chinese and English). The subsequent three years integrate professional master's degree training with standardized residency training. Upon fulfilling all degree requirements, students will receive: an undergraduate diploma, a Bachelor's degree certificate, a master's degree diploma, a Master's degree certificate, a Medical Practitioner's Qualification Certificate, and a Standardized Residency Training Completion Certificate. Graduates are thus eligible to practice medicine immediately.

Party and Youth League Activities

The School's Youth League Committee has been awarded the university-level "May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee" for 18 consecutive years. The Student Union was recognized as a "Guangdong Outstanding Student Union" in 2017 and 2022. The Fourth Undergraduate Party Branch was distinguished as one of the "100 Model Graduate Party Branches" nationwide. " The School's "Bringing Culture, Technology, and Healthcare to Rural Areas" social practice programs, including the prestigious "Rural Revitalization" Special National Excellent Team award in the national summer social practice activities for university students.  

Academic Competitions

Our students have achieved outstanding results in various academic competitions. At the National Undergraduate Forum on Innovative Research in Basic Medicine, they secured three gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal. In the "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students, they won a national bronze medal and a provincial gold medal. At the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition, they earned one first prize and three third prizes nationally, along with three grand prizes and one first prize at the provincial level. Furthermore, in clinical skills competitions, students received first prize for professional excellence at the Chinese Stomatological Association's National Clinical Skills Display for dental students, as well as the prestigious Excellence Award—the highest honor—at the "Silk Road Cup" National Clinical Skills Competition for dental students.

Financial Support

Guanghua School of Stomatology is committed to a student-centered approach in education, offering a comprehensive system of scholarships and financial aid. More than 30% of undergraduate students receive scholarships, while financial assistance programs ensure that 100% of students with economic difficulties are fully supported. In addition to national and university-level awards, the School provides its own scholarships, grants, and special funds for international exchange, extending benefits to all students. Graduate students benefit from full scholarship coverage, with every graduate student receiving financial support.

International Exchange

Guanghua School of Stomatology is dedicated to the vision of "Rooted in the Greater Bay Area, Reaching Out to the World." We actively engage in a wide range of international collaborations and exchanges through student exchange programs, faculty and student visits, research partnerships, and international conferences. The School has established exchange and collaborative relationships with dental schools and research institutions in over 20 countries and regions, including the University of the Pacific, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Illinois, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, the University of Glasgow, Tohoku University, Health Sciences University of Hokkaido and Griffith University. Formal partnership agreements have been signed with six of these institutions.

Further Education and Employment

Our graduates consistently achieve outstanding outcomes in further education and employment, with the School repeatedly recognized as an "Advanced Collective for Employment Guidance" at Sun Yat-sen University. From 2017 to 2024, the average rate of graduates pursuing postgraduate studies exceeded 80%, with 100% of these students admitted to prestigious universities, including China's "Double First-Class" institutions and other world-renowned universities. The employment rate has remained above 97% for ten consecutive years. Our graduates are widely employed in specialized stomatology hospitals or general hospitals in developed regions such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, receiving consistent praise from employers for their competence and professionalism.

Alumni Achievements

Guanghua School of Stomatology has cultivated a distinguished network of alumni who have made remarkable contributions to the field. Among our graduates is one Vice President of the Chinese Stomatological Association, along with 4 alumni serving as Chairs and 15 as Vice Chairs of various specialized committees within the association. Our alumni also hold leadership positions in provincial-level organizations, including 1 President and 2 Vice Presidents of the Guangdong Stomatological Association. More than 10 alumni serve as Deans or Associate Deans of affiliated hospitals at prestigious "Double First-Class" universities, while over 100 alumni have established successful careers at renowned institutions or founded their own practices both in China and internationally.

Future Development

Guanghua School of Stomatology is committed to advancing cutting-edge scientific research, addressing major national strategic needs, and serving the economic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. We are accelerating the construction of our three hospital campuses in Yuexiu, Nansha, and Tianhe, while simultaneously advancing three key platforms: the National First-Class Undergraduate Program, the National Regional Medical Center for Stomatology, and national-level scientific innovation platforms. This strategic will establish a comprehensive development framework within the Greater Bay Area, characterized by an integrated approach across our three campuses, ultimately positioning us as a world-class center for stomatology.
