“Guanghua” refers to the meaning of rejuvenation of the Chinese nation embracing an unyielding spirit of self-strengthening. In 1908, Guangdong Guanghua Medical School emerged at the dawn of a new era, which was the first western medical school in China. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Guanghua Medical School became part of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Science, making it one of the three foundational pillars of Sun Yat-sen University’s medical education. In 1974, Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University and its affiliated Hospital of Stomatology were founded on the original site of Guanghua Medical School, continuing its century-long medical legacy.
